Most people learn AI in the wrong order. They jump straight to agents, get lost, and quit. Here is the order that works. 7 stops, and at every stop you walk away with something you can use that same day.
Stop 1: the foundations. Learn the 3 words everybody mixes up. A chat answers when you ask. An automation runs the same fixed steps every time something happens. An agent decides its own next step, over and over, until the goal is done. Know the difference, and you stop buying the wrong tool.
Stop 2: context. Write your business into a few plain files. What you sell. Who your customers are, and what they ask. How you write. What a normal week looks like. Tell the AI to read that folder first, and it answers with your prices and your customers, not some average company's.
Stop 3: map the process. Before you automate anything, draw how the work really runs. What starts a job. What happens next. Where someone has to decide. Where it ends. The map tells you which job to automate first, so you stop guessing.
Stop 4: your first automation. You drag blocks onto a canvas. The first block is the trigger. A form comes in, or an invoice lands. Every block after it is a step you used to do by hand. Save this, send that, wait 2 days, check for a reply. Build it in an afternoon, and it runs every week from then on.
Stop 5: AI inside the automation. Drop AI into 1 block, and the flow handles the step that used to need a person. It reads what came in, and sorts it. Support question, or refund. It pulls out the details, and drafts the reply in your voice.
Stop 6: agents. An agent is AI with a goal and a loop. You hand it a whole job instead of a step. It plans, does the work, checks the result, fixes what broke, and goes again until it is done. The real skill here is knowing when plain automation is enough. Most people grab the most complicated option first, and lose a month.
Stop 7: AI employees. An AI employee is an agent that stays. It keeps memory, so your corrections stick. It follows your written procedure the same way every time. Anything that spends money or sends a message waits for your yes. And you run all of them from 1 board. Done, running, and waiting on you.
Give this 2 to 3 months of focus, and AI will be running real parts of your work. Start with stop 1 tomorrow. Each stop gets its own short lesson in this series.
